Karan has always been a maker in various ways, textiles, ceramics and more recently metalwork have all been part of her artistic identity and exploration. Never scared to try something new.
At the delightful age of 50 she entered into University life for the first time as a full time student studying BA(Hons) Applied Arts and is now confident to call herself an emerging maker and artist.
Karan is originally from the historic city of Winchester, and a place that is part of her identity but her homelife and professional practice now revolves between North Wales and the Welsh/Shropshire Border.
Karan's current work is influenced by observing the colours and forms from the fallen apples and windswept leaves that carpet the local orchards each year across North Wales and North Shropshire .
Taking inspiration from the natural colours and process of decay, Karan created a series of copper vessels that evoke the feeling of perpetual autumn.
Capturing the moment before decaying leaves fully return to the earth, enriching the soil to enable new life, Karan has utilised traditional metalsmithing techniques and natural patinations within her collection of sculptural vessels.
